Bagdogra to Gangtok
Arrive at Gangtok(124 kms), the capital of Sikkim after a 5 hr drive passing through the towns of Siliguri, Rambi, Teesta, Melli and entering into Sikkim through Rangpo and passing through Singtam. Halt overnight at Gangtok.
Gangtok Sightseeing
You can see places in and around Gangtok. You can visit the famous monastery of Rumtek situated 24 kms from Gangtok 1hr drive. On the way back visit the Research Institute of Tibetology. There are also other places that might interest you, like the Cottage Industry, Flower Show and The Enchey Monastery. Halt overnight.
Gangtok to Yuksom
In the morning drive to Yuksom via Singtam, Temi Tea Estate, Rabangla, Kwizing and Tashiding. Halt overnight at Yuksom. Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim where the first Chogyal of the kingdom of Sikkim was consecrated in 1641AD by three learned Lamas. The Norbugang Chorten nearby still has the evidence of the consecration ceremony in the form of stone seats and a footprint of the head lama on a stone. The name 'Yuksom' means the meeting place of three Lamas. Situated at an altitude of 1780 mt, the place is famous as the starting place for mountaineering expeditions and treks to higher Kanchenjunga ranges. The famous Dubdi monastery is an hour's trek from Yuksom. For trekkers going towards the Kanchenjunga base camp or the Dzongri - Goechala region, this is the place where it all actually starts. About 9 km from Yuksom is the 'phamrong' waterfall. A bridge nearby provides excellent glimpse of the waterfall.
Yuksom to Bakhim (9,200 ft)
Yuksom to Bakhim is a 5 hrs walk. On the way crossing waterfalls like Churchery and Mintogang and stream like Phukhola & Chursey. Take a break at Lachen for lunch. From Lachen it is a steep climb to Prekchu and then to Bakhim which from here is only a 2 hrs walk. Halt overnight at Bakhim.
Bakhim to Phedang
A 3½ hrs walk from Bakhim will take you to Phedang passing through Tshoka the last tiny village of Bhutias at an altitude of 10,000 ft and move to Phedang (11,550 ft). You can see the culture of the Bhutias and during this walk which in its strange way is very rewarding.
Phedang to Dzongri
Phedang to Dzongri (13,290 ft) 3 hrs walk quite steeply upwards crossing Deorali a view point and move to Dzongri. Dzongri is a place well known among trekkers who like seeing Mt. Kanchanjunga at close quarters. The view of the mountain range is absolutely beautiful.
Dzongri to Pangding
Trek from Dzongri to Pangding(4270 m)via Tikipchu 5 hrs walk from Pangding you get the closest and Panoramic views of Mt. Kabru , Kokthang, Rathong and Pandim. All along the trail the rhododendrons are the prime attraction during the flowering season April-May. Halt overnight at camps.
Pangding to Yangsap
Trek from Pangding to Yangsap(3950 m) 3 hrs walk via Kokling Lunch at Yangsap. Halt overnight at camps.
Yangsap to Gomathang
Trek from Yangsap to Gomathang (3810 m) 2 hrs walk. Halt overnight at camps.
Gomathang to Daphebir to Garakhet
Trek from Gomathang to Garakhet(4280m) 5hrs walk. Overnight at camps. Trail leads through the Daphebir Pass (4631m)and then Descends to Garakhet.
Garakhet to Megu
Trek from Garakhet to Megu(4402 m) 5hrs walk. The trail descends for about 1½ hrs and from the place called Kopche the trail becomes steep from about 1½ hrs. After this climb you descend down to Megu valley. This trail is dominated by rhododendron shrubs and primulas, which bloom during May-June. Halt overnight at a camp.
Megu to Dhond
The trail from Megu to Dhond(3897 m) 5 hrs walk. The trail is Gradual and can get the picturesque views of the nearby hills of the Nepal . Halt overnight at a camp.
Dhond to Chiwabhanjyang
Trek from Dhond to Chiwabhanjyang(3142 m) 5hrs walk through the rhododendron forest. Halt overnight at a camp.
Chiwabhanjyang to Uttare
Trek from Chiwabhanjyang to Uttare (2320 m) 4hrs walk via Chitre. You will find enough time to lunch at Uttare. Halt overnight at a camp.
Uttare to Pelling
From Uttare to Pelling (2085 m) 4hrs drive. On the way stop to get the beautiful views of the nearby hills and mountains. The pleasant little town of Pelling is famous for magnificent view of the snow-capped mountains of Kanchanjunga. Pelling is about 133 km away from Siliguri and 125km from Gangtok and well connected by bus and jeep services. Placid Pelling pulls most of the visitors for its representative status in history, nature and culture of the state.
Situated at an altitude of 6,800 ft, it offers good view of entire mountain ranges including the Koktang, Kumbhakarna, Rathong, Kabru, Dom, Kanchanjunga, Pandim, Zopuno, Shimbho, Narsing, Siniyalchu and others. Pelling is as close as you can get to Kanchenjunga without leaving the material comfort of good hotels and due to its advantageous location, many hotels and lodges have come up in and around Pelling offering various categories of accommodation. It is also very easy to get to Darjeeling from Pelling.
