Introduction

Out of 14 eight thousand meters high peaks in the world, 5 are situated in Pakistan . Nanga Parbat is the only Himalayan Peak situated apart from rest of the 4 in Karakorams, clustered around Concordia, the famous place on Baltoro Glacier. Concordia trek is one of the most demanding but rewarding treks in world. Serving as the basic point for the 4 giants of Karakorams i.e. Gasherbrum II (8035m), Broad Peak (8047m) and Hidden Peak or Gasherbrum I ( 8068m) dominated by the king of the mountains, K-2 (8611m ), Concordia is the junction of Baltoro and Godwin Austin Glaciers with several other tributaries.

One must drive from Skardu to Askole, the last permanent village at the head of jeep road and visit base camp of all 4 eight thosanders in days to follow. Completing the trek at Hushe across the Ghondoghoro Pass (5650m), a drive to Gilgit and onwards go to on of the most scenic places, Fairy Meadows, which offers superb views of Nanga Parbat (8125m), the ninth highest in the world. After visiting Concordia and crossing Ghondoghoro La, a trek to base camp of Nanga Parbat is a soft adventure.

A night in tents or in log cabins at Fairy Meadows is a wonderful experience before returning to the busting towns with daily busy routine life. This is an adventure beyond your imagination.

Islamabad - Askole
Drive from Islamabad to Askole.Experience breathtaking views of the huge massif of Nanga Parbat , of the river Indus and an array of flora and fauna on the way. Askole is a kick point for expeditions and trekking parties for most of the famous mountains in Baltistan.
Askole - Bardumal
Trekking starts from Askole and making a stop at Korofon, a green campsite and crossing Domurdo River we arrive at campsite of Bardumal. A full day's walk mostly on flat ground helps us to acclimatize.
Bardumal - Paiyu

This takes another full day's walk with a tough portion of crossing river by Jhola. Later on we arrive at Paiyu for overnight halt. Paiyu is a traditional rest spot before climbing on Baltoro Glacier and the last place to find trees of the region. In local language Paiyu stands for salt.

Paiyu - Khaburse

Trekking starts on the Baltoro Glacier, the source of Braldu River to arrive at Liligo campsite. Walking onwards along the glacier, you arrive at campsite of Khaburse for overnight.

Khaburse - Goro I

Onwards walk, stay and everything is on the glacier for next few days. Cross Urdukas, the last place to grow grass and alpine flowers, en route and view of Paiyu Peak and Uli Biaho tower behind. Walking in the heart of glacier, Gasherbrum IV -7929m is visible in her full glory. You pass by the Masherbrum Peak (K-1) - 7821m and view Cathedrals across the glacier. A camp maybe set up on the debris of Baltoro Glacier and a chilly cold night maybe also be anticipated.

Goro I - Concordia
Walking in a gorge of high mountains i.e. Gasherbrum , Masherbrum , Cathedrals and Mustagh is thoroughly enchanting. Mustagh Tower is an eye catching peak on the route. After reaching Concordia you may camp under Mitre Peak . The surrounding peaks at Concordia provides superb panorama as one can see K-2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum-IV, Baltoro Kangri, Mitre, Crystal, Marble and Angel Peaks. Reaching at Concordia is rewarding as the first phase of the trek is complete.
Concordia - Excursion K-2 Base Camp

You can then make a trip to the base camp of K-2, crossing Broad Peak base camp en route. The walk is through heavily crevassed glacier but trekking is safe.

Concordia - Gasherbrum Base Camp
You can return back to Concordia and prepare for another exciting trek. From Concordia campsite cross Shama Camp and arrive at the base camp of two more eight thousanders i.e. G-I & G-II. The view from Gasherbrum base camp is a delight for photographers..
Gasherbrum Base Camp - Ali Camp

Start back to the main trekking route i.e. towards Ghondoghoro La and leave Baltoro Glacier and start walking on Vigne Glacier to arrive at Ali Camp, a famous campsite serving as the base camp for Ghondoghoro La.

Ali Camp - Kheuspang

An early start should be made to cross Ghondoghoro La at 5650m, the main challenge of the trek where ropes are fixed to cross the crevassed slopes on both sides of the Pass. Once on the top of the pass, a clear day reveals the excellent view of the peaks all around. The Gasherbrums, Broad Peak and K-2 are splendidly visible.

Kheuspang - Dalsangpa

From Kheuspang you can walk to Dalsangpa. It is an easy and short walk to Dalsangpa, meaning a field of flowers. Fabulous views of towering Masherbrum and other peaks from the campsite can be enjoyed.

Dalsangpa - Hushe

Out from savage glaciers one finally starts walking on dry land. Descend down to Saistcho, a campsite along riverside with trees and greenery where the walk finishes at green and fertile village of Hushe , the first permanent village after leaving Askole.

Hushe - Khaplu-Gilgit- ( A Long Drive)
Gilgit - Fairy Meadows

A great but soft adventure at the base camp of Nanga Parbat - 8125m, the lone giant of Himalayas and the only second highest in Pakistan after K-2. You have to drive to Raikot Bridge on KKH and onwards to Jail (Tato), by jeeps at foot of Fairy meadows. From the end of the jeep track, it is a hike of about three hours to the legendary place Fairy meadows, which is truly named with unmatched views of Nanga Parbat . At fairy Meadows tents or log cabins are available for accommodation.

Fairy Meadows - Excursion Base Camp

Trekking starts with a soft walk of two to three hours, through a dense pine forest and later through birch trees and along shallow streams which leads to Beyal, a summer settlement of shepherds with stunning views of Nanga Parbat - 8125m. From Beyal, you can hike to base camp crossing tails of glaciers with a well identified track. At the base camp, a monument had been erected in the memory of climbers who have died on the mountain.

Fairy Meadows - Besham
Early departure can be made from fairy Meadows to Jail and a drive to Raikot
